Something is a bit different in the air at the Norman Ave shops? With the opening of Mr Frankie Café, an underground tribe of ‘hipsters’ have sprouted up, and they need coffee, now!
Young locals have come far and wide, some on designer vintage bikes, some with gorgeous Groodle puppies and others with cute kiddies to find a place in the warm hospitality of this new local haunt, right next door to our office (at Janice Dunn Estate Agents).
And it’s understandable why, the food is fabulous! The coffee is also fabulous! But I’m most won over by the shop interior.
Lovingly designed by Harrison Interiors and built by MIC Projects, the café features a unique combination of designer finishes which are rather revolutionary in their combination.
The first surprise that greets you is a back lit sign in apricot pink! You then walk onto the original concrete floors, which have been polished and embellished with painted geometric shapes.
There is a sunny communal corner towards the front. It features a large, purpose built square table, with earthy terracotta tiles and a surprising splash of red grout!
The main counter features terrazzo stone tiles in heavenly shades of pink. And satisfyingly the original ceiling with mid-century steel details have been kept and given a designer refresh with apricot paint.
There are also some generous bench seats, which are in a teal colour, and have been highlighted with gold light fittings and an art deco wall feature.
The experience is fresh, warm and inviting and worth a peek if you want to see something a bit different. Our special hidden pocket of leafy Frankston South is fast becoming discovered!
